South Korea demands Ukraine apology over North Korean POW disclosure

international relations defense & military political figures

A major diplomatic spat has erupted between South Korea and Ukraine after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed the transfer of captured North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul.

The prisoners were captured by Ukrainian forces early last year after being deployed alongside thousands of North Korean troops to support Russia's war against Ukraine.

South Korea has demanded an apology from Ukraine, stating that President Zelenskyy breached a secrecy agreement by revealing the transfer. The South Korean President accused Ukraine of undermining him by disclosing the deal, which Seoul expected to remain secret.

Addressing the incident, the South Korean President stated that because the matter concerns the honor of the Republic of Korea's people and nation, it cannot be overlooked.
