North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the port city of Wonsan on Saturday morning. The missile was fired towards the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, at approximately 6:30 am. According to the South Korean military, the projectile flew more than 700 kilometers.
The launch comes amid renewed tensions between Pyongyang and Seoul. Ties between the neighbors have become fraught following a landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone last month that wounded three South Korean soldiers, for which Seoul has demanded an apology.
The test occurred a day after Kim Jong-un's sister denounced South Korea for claiming that North Korean mines were responsible for the injuries to the soldiers. Seoul and Washington are currently analyzing the details of the missile launch.
