A fire broke out on a foreign cargo vessel on Thursday while it was docked for repairs at a state-owned shipyard in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao.
At least 20 people were killed and five remain missing, though some reports indicate the death toll reached 25. A total of 42 people were on board the vessel; reports state that between 12 and 17 individuals were evacuated, including five who were injured.
The cause of the blaze remains unclear. President Xi Jinping has called for intensified search and rescue efforts, a swift investigation, and accountability measures.
