Mexico’s navy located two sailboats that went missing while carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba. The vessels, carrying nine people, departed from Isla Mujeres in southern Mexico on March 20 and lost contact, raising concerns in Mexico and Cuba.

A navy aircraft spotted the boats approximately 80 nautical miles northwest of Havana. Authorities confirmed the crews are safe and the vessels are continuing their journey to the Cuban capital.

The sailboats were part of the Nuestra América Convoy, an effort to deliver urgently needed aid to Cuba amid a crippling fuel blockade and widespread blackouts. The convoy organizers expressed relief and thanked Mexican and Cuban authorities for their assistance.
