Explosions rocked the Syrian capital on Tuesday during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron. This visit marked the first time a European Union head of state visited Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
Twin blasts occurred near the hotel where Macron had spent the night, striking after he had departed for the presidential palace. The attacks killed one person and wounded dozens.
Syrian authorities announced on Thursday that they have arrested several suspects accused of carrying out the series of bombings. The Interior Ministry stated that security forces have dismantled the entire cell.
An official blamed the Islamic State for the attacks, although the group has not claimed responsibility.
