Alibaba sues US seeking removal from Pentagon's blacklist

defense & military

Alibaba has filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense in a court in San Jose, California. The Hangzhou-based e-commerce giant is seeking to have its name removed from the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies.

The Pentagon had included Alibaba on the blacklist alongside other firms, including Baidu and BYD, accusing these companies of aiding the People's Liberation Army.

Alibaba argues that the designation is arbitrary and unjustified, stating that claims of affiliation with the Chinese military have no basis in fact or law. The tech giant maintains that it has no ties to China's military and asserts that the U.S. government violated the law by making the claim.

Additionally, the company contends that the Department of Defense failed to provide substantial evidence or an explanation for adding the e-commerce leader to the list.
