The Trump administration has approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine for an estimated $2.1 billion. The US State Department stated that the proposed sale will improve Ukraine's integrated air and missile defense capabilities to meet current and future threats. Canada, Germany, and Norway will help finance the purchase.
This move represents one of the most significant steps to supply defensive weapons to Kyiv since Trump took office in 2025. The approval follows weeks of complaints from Ukrainian authorities regarding dwindling interceptor supplies, with Ukraine having waited nearly a month for the US to sign off on the critical missile supplies.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the decision strong but warned that delivery of the missiles could take years. He urged allies to speed up deliveries, noting that stockpiles are needed immediately to counter Russian ballistic missile and drone attacks, a need made more pressing by the rapidly approaching winter.
