Russia resumed strikes on Kyiv late Monday, pummeling the capital as soon as a three-day pause ordered by President Vladimir Putin expired. These strikes mark the first attacks on the city following the short-lived respite.
The halt in bombing coincided with a peace push by US President Donald Trump's top envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The envoys met with President Putin in Moscow on Saturday before making their first official trip to Kyiv to hold separate talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Despite the return to violence, a US envoy reported being encouraged by the discussions. A White House official stated that next steps regarding the efforts to end the war will be announced in the coming weeks.
