Nick Reiner, 33, will not face the death penalty if convicted of the murders of his parents, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the decision on Tuesday.
Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing his parents in their home in December 2025. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors stated that the decision followed a rigorous review and consultation with the victims' loved ones. District Attorney Hochman told reporters that his office considered mitigating factors as well as the views of Reiner's siblings, Jake and Romy.
If convicted, the maximum sentence Reiner will be eligible to receive is life without the possibility of parole.
