The US Mint has issued the 2026 US President Donald J. Trump $1 coin to mark America's 250th birthday. These gold-colored coins have entered circulation, marking the first time a serving American president has appeared on a coin made for everyday use, despite a federal bar on living presidents appearing on currency.
The coin features President Trump's visage on the heads side and the Great Seal of the United States on the tails side. The design was approved this year by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, whose members were appointed by Trump.
On Wednesday, the Mint began selling the coins, with rolls and bags becoming available from midday Eastern time. On the Mint website, the coins are sold at markups ranging from roughly 50 percent to nearly 150 percent over their face value, costing between $1.55 and $2.44 each. The coins can also be purchased in packages of 25 for $61 or 100 for $154.50.
