Anthropic, the developer of the AI assistant Claude, has submitted a confidential S-1 filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission to go public. Valued at $965 billion, the company could make its market debut as early as October or by the end of the year.
This move gives Anthropic a first-mover's advantage over its rival, OpenAI, in the race to be the first major generative AI company to reach public markets. While neither company is currently profitable, Anthropic is positioning itself to tap public markets to secure the vast funding necessary to expand its computing capacity.
To lead the initial public offering, Anthropic has selected Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, with JPMorgan Chase also working on the deal. As the company nears its debut, it is solidifying its Claude Partner Network to demonstrate the durability of its revenue. Rao is at the center of this defining moment for both Anthropic and the AI industry.
