Italian world number one Jannik Sinner reached the Italian Open semi-finals on Thursday, defeating Russia's Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4. With this victory, Sinner set a new record with his 32nd consecutive Masters 1000 win, surpassing the record previously held by Novak Djokovic.
Sinner is now aiming for further milestones, as Djokovic remains the only player to have won all nine Masters 1000 events. Should Sinner lift the title on home soil in Rome, he would match this achievement. He is also just two victories away from becoming the first home man to win the Italian Open in half a century.
Reflecting on the win, Sinner stated that while records mean a lot, he plays for his own story. He noted the emotional challenge of playing at home and emphasized that his current priority is physical recovery before his next match, which will be played at night.
In the semi-finals, Sinner awaits the winner of the match between former world number one Daniil Medvedev and Spanish youngster Martin Landaluce. If he advances to the final, he will meet either Luciano Darderi or Casper Ruud.
