Erin Patterson appeals mushroom murder convictions in Australia

crime & law legal proceedings

Erin Patterson, an Australian woman, is appealing her convictions for poisoning four of her estranged husband's relatives. Patterson was found guilty last year of murdering three of the relatives—her husband's parents and an elderly aunt—and attempting to kill a fourth.

The convictions stem from a 2023 incident in which Patterson served the victims a beef Wellington lunch laced with lethal death cap mushrooms.

Judges in Melbourne will begin hearing the appeal on Wednesday. While Patterson is appealing her convictions, prosecutors have also filed an appeal calling for a harsher sentence.
