Russell Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday for the start of his trial. Arriving in a black Mercedes-Benz van, the comedian and actor wore a dark suit, a black and white striped shirt, a long white tie, and sunglasses. Accompanied by his wife, Brand stepped out to a crowd of reporters, photographers, and video journalists, stating that he felt "blessed."
Brand faces seven charges including three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault involving six women. The alleged incidents took place between 1999 and 2009. The court was informed that the six female complainants have never met each other.
Prosecutors have described the 51-year-old as a ruthless, calculated, and manipulative sexual predator who used his celebrity status and force to assault women. The prosecution alleged that Brand possessed an insatiable desire to get what he wanted and viewed women simply as a means to an end.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denies all allegations. He is currently on bail as the court hears testimony regarding the multiple alleged instances of sexual assault.
