Celta Vigo-Osasuna La Liga opener postponed due to fungus outbreak on pitch

Celta Vigo's season-opening La Liga match against Osasuna has been postponed after a fungal outbreak affected the pitch at Estadio de Balaidos. The decision was mutually agreed upon by both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation following a technical inspection by La Liga officials on Wednesday.

The outbreak left the stadium's surface unfit for football. Celta stated that La Liga had inspected the field the previous week and validated work being carried out to eradicate the disease, but recent weather conditions adversely affected the pitch's progress.

Although earlier reports suggested Celta had requested the postponement while Osasuna was keen on playing, the fixture has now been officially rescheduled for August 27.
