Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina has been censured by his colleagues in the House following an investigation into his conduct with female staffers. The censure vote received bipartisan support.
The action followed a bipartisan probe by the House Ethics Committee regarding allegations of sexual harassment against two young female staff members. The committee detailed Edwards' "unprofessional and inappropriate conduct," finding that he showered the aides with lavish gifts, wrote them poetry, and invited them to trips and intimate dinners.
Rep. Edwards denied any wrongdoing. He disputed the Ethics Committee's findings that he had created a hostile environment for female staff.
