Kyiv officials and Ukrainians have widely criticised the CEO of German defence company Rheinmetall for dismissing the country’s defence innovation and making sexist remarks. The CEO reportedly mocked Ukraine’s drone technology, characterizing it as basic technology assembled by housewives.
The comments sparked a social media backlash, prompting Rheinmetall to issue a public statement. The company expressed “utmost respect” for Ukraine’s defence manufacturers and their efforts against Russia.
Rheinmetall affirmed its respect for Ukraine’s defence efforts following the CEO’s belittling comments regarding the use of drones in the war. Senior officials in Kyiv have also responded to the remarks.
