CBS ends contract for '60 Minutes' journalist Sharyn Alfonsi after clash

tv shows

CBS News has not renewed the contract of veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi. Alfonsi will not return for the show's 59th season, which begins in the fall.

The decision follows a clash between Alfonsi and Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss over a December report on a brutal prison in El Salvador. The segment, which focused on detained migrants, was abruptly pulled and shelved before it could air.

Alfonsi has criticized the network and Weiss, decrying the spread of corporate meddling and describing the decision to hold the segment as political. She accused CBS News of penalizing her for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting, stating that the network has sent a chilling message to the newsroom.

Despite the expiration of her contract, Alfonsi stated that she refuses to resign.
