Taylor Swift files to trademark voice and likeness amid AI concerns

Taylor Swift has filed three trademark applications in a move designed to protect her voice and image from artificial intelligence misuse. Her company, TAS Rights Management, submitted the applications on April 24.

The filings include one image of the pop superstar and two audio clips. The sound trademarks specifically cover Swift saying the phrases "Hey, it’s Taylor Swift" and "Hey, it’s Taylor."

The strategy comes as Swift's image and voice have been used in numerous AI-generated deepfakes, ranging from explicit images and false advertising to fake political endorsements. The trademarks are an attempt to protect her likeness from deepfake videos and audio created by AI.

Swift joins other celebrities, including Matthew McConaughey, who have adopted similar strategies of trademarking their voices amid the rise of AI-generated content.
