French President Emmanuel Macron welcomes Saudi crown prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday for a two-day visit. The official agenda for the visit is set to range from esports to the war in the Middle East.

Long ostracised on the international stage after the murder of Saudi journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi, the crown prince has in recent years regained status as a valued strategic partner.

Despite this partnership, three journalists' unions protested on August 23 against France hosting the Saudi strongman.

The visit will conclude on August 24 with the signing of several agreements regarding health, transport, and energy.
