Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called lawmakers back to Tallahassee to propose a new congressional map designed to be more favorable for the GOP. This redistricting effort aims to secure as many as four additional US House seats for Republicans in November’s midterm elections.

Florida’s House took the first step toward this goal on Wednesday by backing the governor's bid to redraw the state’s congressional districts.

The proposed map will now move to the GOP-run Florida Senate, where it is expected to be approved.
