A Texas grand jury has indicted Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Mario Alberto Morales, 33, on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge stems from an incident in Houston on October 10.
Prosecutors say Morales was driving an unmarked SUV when he deliberately veered into 48-year-old Miguel Parra Hernandez. The incident occurred during a pursuit through a parking lot while Hernandez, a construction worker, was running away during an immigration raid and botched traffic stop.
The impact caused serious injuries to Hernandez. Officials stated that Morales ran over both of the man's legs, leaving him with several fractures and a hip injury.
This case occurs as few federal officers have faced criminal charges for their actions in the field during Trump’s immigration crackdown.
