Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" debuted as the No. 1 film in the United States and Canada over the weekend, earning an estimated $124.5 million at the domestic box office. The nearly three-hour epic saw its domestic haul fueled by IMAX screenings.
The big-budget production collected an additional $139.6 million from overseas, bringing its total global ticket sales to $264 million for the opening weekend. This figure bested many franchise films and represents the director's biggest international opening ever.
The launch of "The Odyssey" performed even better than Nolan's previous film, "Oppenheimer."
