FTC and 20 states sue Dollar General for deceptive pricing and overcharging

The Federal Trade Commission and 20 states filed a lawsuit on Monday against Dollar General, the nation’s largest dollar-store chain. The complaint, filed in federal court in Nashville, alleges that the retailer engaged in long-running deceptive pricing practices across its more than 20,000 stores across the United States.

Authorities claim that Dollar General routinely charged customers more at the register than the prices displayed on shelves, price tags, and in advertisements. This pattern of inaccurate pricing is alleged to have affected millions of purchases.

The lawsuit cites a Guardian investigation published last December. According to the complaint, Dollar General failed to correct the issue despite having extensive corporate knowledge of the problem.
