Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and envoy, held a rare meeting with the Hamas chief and leadership Sunday in Egypt. The meeting was part of a new diplomatic effort to make progress on the stalled Gaza ceasefire.
The talks aim to salvage a 15-point, U.S.-backed roadmap that calls for Hamas to disarm in Gaza to end any future role in running the territory, while Israel would withdraw from the war-shattered Palestinian land.
Kushner is expected in Jerusalem on Monday for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. These discussions follow the prime minister's rejection of the peace plan and the 15-point roadmap last week.
