President Trump’s signature will appear on future US paper currency, marking the 250th anniversary of the country. This is a first for a sitting president, according to the Treasury Department.
Traditionally, U.S. paper currency features the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer, but not the president. The overall designs of the bills will remain unchanged, with the president’s signature replacing that of the Treasurer.
This decision accompanies an ongoing effort to place Trump’s face on a coin and represents the latest instance of the president’s name and likeness being used on American cultural institutions and government projects. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s signature will also be present on the new currency.
