Bryan Kohberger, who is serving multiple life sentences for the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, filed a petition for post-conviction relief on Monday. The former criminology student is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea and obtain a new trial.
Kohberger, who pleaded guilty to the crimes last year, claims that he did so because of bad legal advice. He is now seeking to abandon that plea in order to have his day in court.
The case stems from a 2022 incident where Kohberger broke into a six-bedroom house and killed Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. The victims, all in their early 20s, were found with dozens of knife wounds. Evidence also showed that Goncalves suffered from blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.
