Dominic Frimpong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea, was killed during an armed robbery on the team’s bus Sunday following a Ghana Premier League match against Samartex.

The incident occurred as the bus was returning from the game in Samreboi, southern Ghana. Masked men with guns reportedly opened fire on the bus, prompting players and staff to flee into nearby bushes. One player was injured and received medical attention.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed Frimpong’s death, calling him a promising young talent and a significant loss to Ghana football. The GFA stated it will strengthen security measures for clubs traveling for domestic competitions.

This is not the first such incident, as another Premier League team, Legon Cities, was attacked by suspected armed robbers in 2023, though no injuries were reported then.
