Lebanon's prime minister visited a battered southern village on Wednesday as the implementation of a Washington-brokered agreement between Lebanon and Israel began. The move follows months of war between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah.
The first Israeli withdrawal under a pilot zone programme took place this week. As part of the agreement, the Lebanese army is tasked with disarming Hezbollah in the pilot zones where it will operate.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that Lebanon will continue mobilising its political and diplomatic efforts to secure a complete Israeli withdrawal from the south.
