Turkish stand-up comedian Deniz Göktaş was arrested at Istanbul Airport on Thursday. The 32-year-old was detained upon his return to Turkey after a video of his performance gained significant traction online.

The investigation centers on a stand-up routine performed on June 1 and subsequently posted to YouTube. Authorities claim the performance drew complaints for insulting religious values and inciting public hatred of religion.

Göktaş also faces probes for allegedly insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. A Turkish court has since ordered that the comedian be jailed pending trial.
