Three armed men opened fire on guests at a house party in the town of KwaMakhutha, a township south of Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Police reported on Wednesday that the attack left at least 11 people dead, including a woman believed to be pregnant.

The assailants forced the victims into a single room before opening fire. While 11 people were killed, three others were injured and two people survived the attack, leaving the local community in shock. Some of the victims were known to police.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear. This event occurs in a country with one of the highest homicide rates in the world, where about 60 people are killed every day in a population of approximately 62 million people.
