Andrew and Tristan Tate, social media influencers and former kickboxers, were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami on Saturday. The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, were taken into custody on a sealed warrant, with federal authorities not immediately announcing the charges.
The arrests follow a request from the United Kingdom's Crown Prosecution Service for the brothers' extradition. They face 59 charges in the UK, including rape, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, assault, bodily harm, tax evasion, and money laundering. The allegations also include the possession of extreme pornography and indecent images of a child.
The Tate brothers moved to Romania in 2016 and were previously arrested there in 2022 for allegedly participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. They also face allegations in Romania involving money laundering, trafficking minors, and sexual intercourse with a minor. Andrew Tate is a prominent proponent of the manosphere, a network focusing on traditional masculinity and anti-feminism, and is known for promoting aggressively misogynistic views to millions of followers.
A lawyer for the brothers has denied that they participated in any wrongdoing, characterizing the charges as madness.
