U.S. Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday. The brothers, who are kickboxers-turned-influencers and dual U.S. and British citizens, were taken into custody on a sealed warrant and are currently being held in federal detention.
The United Kingdom is seeking their extradition to face a series of serious offenses. British authorities have brought charges including rape, human trafficking, sex trafficking, assault, and bodily harm. Some reports indicate they face up to 59 charges, including tax evasion and money laundering, with 38 new charges relating to four further victims based on evidence from Bedfordshire Police.
This latest development follows previous legal issues in Romania, where the brothers moved in 2016 and were arrested in 2022. In Romania, they have faced allegations of trafficking minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. Andrew Tate is a prominent figure in the manosphere network of online communities, where he has promoted anti-feminism, traditional masculinity, and aggressively misogynistic views.
The Tate brothers appeared in federal court in Miami on Monday. Their lawyer has denied any wrongdoing, describing the charges as madness. A U.S. district judge will now consider whether the conditions for their extradition to the United Kingdom are met.
