France experienced a record-breaking heatwave in June, during which temperatures climbed above 40 degrees Celsius for approximately 11 days.
According to the country's health minister and Public Health France, there were 2,025 excess deaths during the week of June 22 to 28. This marks a 29.1 percent nationwide increase in recorded deaths compared to the previous week.
The number of deaths rose most sharply in the Île-de-France region, where the increase reached 62.8 percent. A similar surge in mortality was also reported in the Pays de la Loire region in western France.
