Trump hails progress as US and Iran continue talks in Qatar

international relations political figures

President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that indirect talks with Iran in Qatar were making progress, stating that the United States was getting along very well with Iran. These meetings are part of an effort to move past last week’s tit-for-tat strikes and convert an interim truce into a lasting peace to end the Middle East war.

Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with their Iranian counterparts and Qatari negotiators. Iran's deputy foreign minister confirmed that the talks had concluded with an agreement to establish a communication channel by Thursday to report and document any violations of their initial memorandum of understanding.

Despite the signs of diplomatic progress, President Trump refused to rule out a return to full-scale conflict to finish the job, though he stated he would prefer diplomacy.
