France has confirmed its first case of Ebola on its territory, marking the first time the virus has been confirmed in Europe. The patient is a doctor who returned to France after completing a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The health ministry reported that the patient has a very low viral load and is currently in isolation. Strict biosafety protocols are being implemented to prevent the risk of the virus spreading within France.

Health workers are racing to identify and trace those who may have had contact with the patient to ensure they isolate. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is monitoring the situation very closely.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the number of confirmed cases of Ebola had risen to 1,094 by Tuesday.
