President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador announced on Wednesday that he has launched a military operation in Haiti to rescue four Salvadoran personnel. The individuals, who are members of an international UN-backed security force, were abducted by Haitian gangs.

The four captives, identified as aviation technicians and soldiers, have been missing since Sunday. Their abduction occurred following an attack on an armored vehicle.

President Bukele stated that the operation aims to bring the men back unharmed. He further warned that a failure to free the hostages would trigger a far more powerful operation.
