Kimi Antonelli took his fourth consecutive win on Sunday at the Canadian Grand Prix held at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The 19-year-old Italian finished 10.7 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who secured his second podium finish of 2026. Red Bull's Max Verstappen claimed third place, marking his first podium of the season.
The race featured a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle for the lead between Antonelli and his Mercedes teammate George Russell, who had started on pole position for the third year in succession. However, Russell was forced to retire on lap 30 of 68 due to a power unit failure. After his car stopped by the side of the track, Russell thumped the vehicle and threw out the headrest, a gesture noted by race control, before stepping clear as the virtual safety car was deployed.
Following the result, Antonelli increased his lead in the Formula One world championship over Russell from 18 to 43 points. Mercedes has won all five grands prix and three Saturday sprints so far this season, pushing the intra-team battle for the drivers' world championship into high gear.
