Michigan residents can return to their usual salad routines as cases of cyclospora parasite infections in the state continue to fall. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday that Michiganders can resume routine guidance for lettuce and salad greens.
The surge in infections was the result of tainted lettuce. State health officials indicated that Michigan has seen the worst of the outbreak, though the first two associated deaths were reported this week. Both individuals who passed away had significant underlying health conditions.
The state health department has lifted its broad precautionary recommendation to avoid bagged salad mixes. However, officials continue to advise the public to avoid recalled lettuce.
