President Maia Sandu has nominated Vasile Tofan to serve as the new Prime Minister of Moldova. The announcement was made during a press conference on Saturday.
Tofan, a 44-year-old financier and prominent investor, is a Harvard Business School graduate and a senior partner at the investment firm Horizon Capital. He previously supported Sandu in the 2024 presidential election.
The nomination follows the unexpected resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who stepped down earlier this month.
Pending approval by parliament, Tofan will be tasked with reviving an economy that has faced a years-long decline and driving Moldova closer to achieving its goal of EU membership.
