Wolf populations are thriving across Europe, with numbers more than doubling from 11,000 in 2012 to over 20,000 in 2023. Significant populations—exceeding 2,000—are found in Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, and Spain.
Recently, a woman was bitten by a wolf in a shopping area of Hamburg, Germany. This marks the first confirmed wolf attack on a human in Germany since the animals’ return to the country in 1998.
Experts suggest the wolf involved is a young animal likely searching for a suitable territory and may have accidentally wandered into the city. Authorities are investigating the incident.
