Houthis strike presidential palace in Aden, killing five, PM unharmed

armed conflict defense & military

Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a series of missile and drone strikes on the Maashiq Presidential Palace complex in the southern port city of Aden, the interim capital of Yemen. Witnesses reported at least six explosions near the palace used by the country's internationally recognized government.

Casualty reports from the attack varied, with official and military sources stating that between two and five people were killed, including two guards, and between 10 and 16 others were wounded. The prime minister and cabinet members who were at the palace complex were unharmed.

The attack marks the latest escalation in the militia's strikes against Saudi Arabia and Yemeni forces supported by the kingdom. The Saudi-led coalition has detailed dozens of attacks on Saudi infrastructure and accused the Houthis of obtaining missile parts from regional states. Saudi Arabia has further asserted that Iran is fueling the escalating conflict.
