Ukrainian drones struck Russian targets overnight, including oil refineries in the Krasnodar and Yaroslavl regions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the strikes as part of a "long-range sanctions" campaign aimed at Moscow.
In the southern Krasnodar region, a fire broke out at the Slavyansk-na-Kubani refinery, a private plant with a capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels per day that supplies fuel for domestic use and export. Russian authorities reported that at least two people were killed across the attacks, with Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratiev stating that one person died and another was injured in a village near the refinery.
An attack also reached a refinery in the Yaroslavl region, east of Moscow, resulting in temporary limits on movement on some road routes to the capital. Ukraine has markedly stepped up long-range attacks on energy facilities and military industries in recent months to cut Moscow's revenue for an invasion now in its fifth year, choke fuel supplies, and make Russians feel the consequences.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the country is going through a difficult period and vowed to ramp up defenses. Concurrently, Ukraine's air force reported that local air defenses shot down 125 drones, six Russian ballistic missiles, and one anti-ship missile overnight.
