Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued an investigative subpoena to the National Football League regarding the league's flagship employment diversity policy known as the Rooney Rule.
The subpoena follows the NFL's refusal to comply with a demand from the Attorney General to drop the policy. Uthmeier had previously threatened potential civil action against the league in March.
The Rooney Rule requires teams to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coach, general manager and coordinator positions. It also mandates that at least one minority candidate be interviewed for the quarterbacks coach position.
