Israel has announced the death of Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed chief of Hamas' armed wing, following air strikes in Gaza City. The Israeli Defense Force confirmed the strike took place on Tuesday, targeting Odeh in northern Gaza. This action comes less than two weeks after Israel killed his predecessor, Ezzedine al-Haddad.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz described Odeh as one of the architects of the October 7 attacks. Odeh previously served as the head of Hamas intelligence during the massacre and was appointed as the successor to the armed wing's leadership approximately one week prior to the strike.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel is committed to eliminating everyone who led the October 7 massacre, asserting they are all marked for death regardless of their location. This operation is part of a broader campaign to target militants linked to the October 7 attacks, coinciding with intensified military pressure in Gaza and expanded ground operations in Lebanon.
The strike occurred despite a U.S.-brokered cease-fire. There has been no immediate response from Hamas following the Israeli claims that Mohammed Odeh was killed.
