U.S. extends sanctions waiver on Russian oil for 3rd straight month

The United States has extended its waiver allowing the sale of Russian crude oil and petroleum products that are already loaded on tankers. This temporary sanctions relief will remain in place until June 17.

This move marks the third straight month that the US has provided such relief. It is also the second time the Treasury has allowed the sanctions waiver to lapse before subsequently extending it, with the most recent waiver issued just days after the previous one expired.

Despite these actions, Ukraine remains uncertain about the United States' position on Russian oil, even after Washington let its waiver for purchases of Russian crude expire.
