Ford’s top electric vehicle executive, Doug Field, is leaving the company as part of a major reorganization. Field, a veteran of Tesla and Apple, joined Ford in 2021 to spearhead the development of new electric models and technology.
The departure coincides with the creation of a new “Product Creation and Industrialization” unit, merging Ford’s EV and manufacturing operations. Field’s arrival at Ford was previously described as a “watershed moment” for the automaker.
Despite struggles with financial losses in its EV sector, Ford confirmed that an affordable, internal “skunkworks” electric project will continue. Field previously held positions at Apple and Tesla before returning to Ford nearly five years ago.
