Canada PM says US doesn't dictate terms of trade talks

Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that the United States cannot dictate the terms of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) during upcoming trade talks. While Carney recognized that the US has trade irritants it wants addressed, he maintained that Washington will not dictate the terms of the negotiations.

Despite this stance, a member of Carney’s advisory committee on US trade relations says the Trump administration is demanding concessions from Canada before it will begin serious negotiations on the agreement.

These developments occur as Dominic LeBlanc raises concerns regarding the slow pace of talks between Ottawa and Washington. The USMCA currently faces a formal, U.S.-led review scheduled for this summer.
