Tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate following President Trump's announcement of what he called the most crushing economic operation against Tehran. Washington has scheduled a press conference for Monday to outline its strategy as it calls for the isolation of Iran's economy.
Iran's foreign minister dismissed the threat of new U.S. sanctions as a sign of desperation, stating that the expected measures would fail to defeat Tehran and would not bring peace to the region. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added that Washington must speak to Iran respectfully to find a solution based on justice and honor.
Tehran has warned that any nations joining the U.S. economic sanctions would be considered enemies. Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told state television that Tehran would target the interests of countries helping the United States, as the government threatens to retaliate against any country that joins the new economic measures.
