Vincent Brown, a 65-year-old doctor living in London and former Rwandan official, has been charged with crimes related to the 1994 Rwandan genocide. He appeared in a London court on Tuesday after being arrested on Monday. According to the UK Crown Prosecution Service, this is the first such case in Britain.
Brown is charged with one count of being an ancillary to genocide and six offences of aiding crimes against humanity. He is alleged to have directed and incited acts of murder and genocide carried out by others.
Specifically, the charges include encouraging the massacre of Tutsis and ordering six killings during the first week of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
