Dutch riot police dispersed several hundred far-right protesters in The Hague on Saturday after violence erupted during an anti-immigration rally. Authorities banned a planned march against immigration and asylum policies after demonstrators threw fireworks and other projectiles at officers in a city centre park.
Police used water cannons, baton charges, and specialist dogs to break up the demonstration of around 500 protesters. The clashes resulted in 24 arrests.
Prime Minister Rob Jetten described the far-right and antisemitic slogans chanted by the demonstrators as abhorrent. The Justice minister also condemned the violence, along with the use of antisemitic slogans and Hitler salutes observed during the rally.
